One of the capital region’s largest private employers announced the departure of its chief executive officer Thursday after the nonprofit lost a series of contracts to provide staffing services.

Since the 1960s, Roseville-based Pride Industries has employed people with disabilities in custodial and light manufacturing roles through governmental and private contracts. Jeff Dern will be replaced by the longtime board chair, Bob Olsen, on an interim basis while the Roseville-based organization looks for a permanent replacement.

Dern joined Pride as controller in 2008 and served in various roles before becoming the chief financial officer in 2016 and CEO in 2018. Olsen, the interim CEO, joined Pride’s board in 1992.

Dern’s departure, first reported by the Sacramento Business Journal, was announced in a news release. Dern could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday, and a call to Pride’s chief growth officer, Leah Corrigan, was not returned.

Corrigan declined to tell the Business Journal what led to Dern’s departure, but the organization has lost high-profile contracts over the past two years.

After an emotional public comment period in March, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors declined to accept a $79 million bid to provide custodial services to the Sacramento International Airport, ending a contract that had stood for more than a decade. Late last year, the organization also lost its contract to provide custodial services to medical prison facilities in Stockton and Vacaville, CalMatters reported.
