A Southern food restaurant in midtown Sacramento caught fire Monday night, according to fire officials.

Sacramento Fire Department crews responded to a commercial fire at the Porch Restaurant & Bar, 1815 K St., around 11:15 p.m., according to dispatch logs reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

Department spokesperson Capt. Justin Sylvia said there were no injuries reported as of Tuesday morningThe cause of the fire was under investigation, he said. The extent of the damage was unknown.

The Porch owner John Lopez said in an email the blaze appeared to have started behind the restaurant, then traveled inside where it lit storage items on fire. Lopez wrote there was “a lot of damage to the back of the building” with water and smoke damage affecting the interior.

The restaurant will be closed until further notice, Lopez said in his email. In the meantime, he said he is planning to temporarily schedule employees to work at The Porch’s sister eatery, Capitol Garage.

As of Wednesday morning, the Porch website was updated with a message informing customers of the fire and subsequent closure, while encouraging diners to visit Capitol Garage at 1500 K St.

The restaurant has been in business since late 2011, according to previous Bee reporting.
