Photos: Up-close look at Esparto blast site, now that evacuation area is lifted

The road closures and evacuation orders around the Esparto fireworks explosion site were lifted on Friday, allowing a closer look at the site where seven people were killed in the July 1 blast.

Numerous vehicles on County Road 23 in Yolo County slowed down Friday as they drove past the property to get a view of the debris, which remains on both sides of the roadway.

Signs on the fence that surrounds the property warn of large fines for disturbing the site, which is the subject of investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and Cal-OSHA. The Yolo County Board of Supervisors also sent a letter Friday to California Attorney General Rob Bonta asking the state Department of Justice to lead the law enforcement investigation.

The wreckage includes many shipping containers, vehicles and the chimney of a former residence on the property.
