Planning a trip to Lake Tahoe? Here are 10 budget-friendly hotels to stay nearby

Planning a trip to Lake Tahoe before summer ends?

Between filling up at the gas tank and grabbing meals on the go, travel costs can add up fast. That’s why finding budget-friendly lodging can make all the difference.

In a recent post, Reddit user 1010meha asked for suggestions for affordable places to stay in the Tahoe area.

“My husband and I want to visit this July (on weekdays) for a few days. ... We really want to do things like swim, kayak, hike, etc,” the Reddit user wrote. “What are some non-crowded areas to stay that we can do all that without a car (we can uber if need be), preferably relatively affordable?”

The Sacramento Bee searched online travel sites — including Expedia and Booking.com — to find the most affordable hotel options around Lake Tahoe in summer 2025.

As of Monday, July 21, here are 10 places where two guests can book a stay for under $150 a night, before taxes and additional fees:

Do I need a reservation to stay at Lake Tahoe’s Sand Harbor?

Sand Harbor, one of Lake Tahoe’s most popular beaches, requires reservations for day-use visits during the summer to help manage crowds.

The reservation requirement is in effect through Oct. 15 for vehicles arriving between 8 and 10:30 a.m. After that time, any remaining spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sand Harbor opens daily at 7 a.m. and closes one hour after sunset.

Reservations can be made online and cost $5, with same-day booking fees waived.

Park entrance fees start at $10, or $15 for non-Nevada vehicles, and are payable by cash only.
