Driver dies after crashing into tree in southern Sacramento County, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A 52-year-old man died Thursday night after crashing his vehicle into a tree in southern Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Just after 11 p.m., CHP dispatchers received an iPhone crash alert for a Lexus near the intersection of Hood Franklin Road and Franklin Boulevard.

CHP officers said a preliminary investigation showed the man had been driving eastbound on Hood Franklin Road, just south of Elk Grove, when his Lexus crossed into the opposite lane. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a tree along the north side of the roadway, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a Friday news release.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the cause of the crash was under investigation, and it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was expected to release the driver’s name after his relatives are notified of his death.
