66-year-old man dies by drowning at Feather River boat ramp in Yuba County

River Drowning

A 66-year-old man died Friday morning after drowning in the Feather River in Yuba County, authorities said.

The man, an Olivehurst resident, was trying to dock his boat at the Star Bend Boat Ramp, according to a news release from the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, which received a call around 7:10 a.m. He entered the water and succumbed to the strong currents after they pulled his boat away from the ramp, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures on the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said. The man’s identity is expected to be released by coroner’s officials once his relatives are notified of his death.

In the news release, Sheriff’s Office reminded the public about “the importance of safety precautions, including wearing life jackets and avoiding entry into unfamiliar or fast-moving water without appropriate equipment and backup.”
