Motorcyclist killed on Highway 99 identified as 61-year-old Live Oak mechanic
A motorcyclist from Live Oak, Sutter County, who was struck by a car and killed Wednesday on Highway 99, was riding home from his job as a mechanic, his stepdaughter said. He was mourned by relatives seeking support through an online fundraiser.
A GoFundMe page started Thursday identifies the man as Timothy Daniel. Katey Chapman, Daniel’s stepdaughter, confirmed his identity.
“He was funny, kind, and incredibly hardworking, always ready to lend a hand or crack a joke to brighten someone’s day,” reads a statement on the GoFundMe page attributed to Daniel’s family. “Whether you knew him for a lifetime or just a moment, you felt his warmth, his generosity, and his deep love for the people around him.”
He was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 99 Wednesday morning when a southbound Nissan Rogue, turning left on Bogue Road at the southern edge of Yuba City, struck the motorcycle around 8:45 a.m., the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release last week. Daniel flew off the motorcycle, suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Daniel was riding home from his night shift as a mechanic at Farmers’ Rice Cooperative in West Sacramento, Chapman said. He was 61, she said; the CHP had said he was 62.
Daniel was born in Hallwood, a town in Yuba County, according to Chapman. She remembered him as an outdoorsman who loved to golf and fish — and ride his motorcycle.
“He was a very cautious rider, very avid rider, had been riding for over 20 years,” Chapman said.
“It’s instilled in me to always look for motorcycles anywhere I go when I’m in my vehicle and to always be cautious of them,” she added. “People need to learn to share the road.”
Daniel’s relatives said in the GoFundMe appeal that they were raising money to cover funeral costs and to support Daniel’s wife. As of Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had received over $2,000, of a $10,000 goal, in 25 donations.
