Motorcycle rider dies after crash with Nissan SUV on Hwy. 99 in Yuba City
A motorcyclist died Wednesday after being struck by an SUV on Highway 99 at the southern edge of Yuba City, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A white Nissan Rogue was turning left on Bogue Road from the highway’s southbound lanes at about 8:45 a.m. when it struck a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading north, the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release. The motorcycle rider, a 62-year-old man from Live Oak, Sutter County, flew off the vehicle and suffered significant injuries, the CHP said.
He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the news release, which did not identify him.
The Nissan driver, identified as a 65-year-old motorist from Yuba City, suffered minor injuries in the crash; a 33-year-old man riding in the vehicle did not report any injuries. Both were driven by a friend to the hospital to be checked out, the CHP said.
The driver of the Rogue turned left on Bogue Road despite a temporary no-left-turn sign due to construction, the CHP said. He was trailing an aggregate truck that successfully made the turn immediately before the crash.
The CHP said drugs and alcohol did not contribute to the crash, which remains under investigation.
