Outdoor store with TJ Maxx ties opening in Sacramento area. Here’s when & where
Need hiking or camping gear? Sierra is opening its first location in the Sacramento region.
The discount retail chain, which is part of the TJ Maxx Family of Brands, will soon host a grand opening at its new store in Davis.
“We’re thrilled to share Sierra’s off-price shopping experience to even more California residents with the opening of our new store,” Amanda Johnson, Sierra’s assistant vice president and marketing director, said in an Aug. 5 news release.
Johnson said Sierra’s Davis location will allow community members to “access the apparel, footwear and gear they need to enjoy the activities they love most at unexpectedly low prices.”

What is Sierra? What does outdoor store sell?
Sierra Trading Post shortened its name to Sierra in 2018 after joining the TJX Cos. Inc., which also owns HomeSense, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Winners.
Sierra, which describes itself as the “go-to destination” for outdoor brands, specializes in discount active and outdoor clothes and recreational gear and products, according to the release.
The chain carries outdoor apparel such as athletic shoes, swimwear and active wear for men and women, as well as sports equipment, hunting tools and camping furniture.
Sierra prides itself at selling goods for 20% to 60% less than “department and specialty store prices,” the company said in the release.
Sierra has more than 115 locations across the United States, TJX executive officials said on an earnings call in February, with plans to open an additional 20 stores in 2025.
“With the new location, Davis shoppers can find even more ways to stay active throughout the year while staying true to their lifestyle and budget,” Johnson said.
Where is new outdoor store in Sacramento region?
Sierra is at 2107 Cowell Blvd. in the Oakshade Town Center in Davis near Interstate 80.
The 21,001-square-foot store is between a Safeway grocery store and a Great Clips hair salon.
When is the grand opening for Davis location?
Sierra’s Davis store will hold a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 9, starting at 8 a.m.
Shoppers can snap up Sierra-branded giveways and participate in a “hidden tag activity” for a chance to win a Sierra gift card, according to the rekease,
Davis radio station Mix96 will broadcast live from the store from noon to 2 p.m., and a local DJ will provide music.
Sierra said it’s made a $10,000 donation to Empower Yolo, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

As of Wednesday, Sierra’s Davis store was seeking full- and part-time store associates.

What are store open hours?
Following the grand opening, Sierra will open 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
