The man who died while working near a powerhouse last week has been identified by coroner’s officials, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

The man was identified as 33-year-old Daniel Bustos Mendez, a Hayward resident. Bustos Mendez died while working as a contractor for the Yuba Water Agency near the New Colgate Powerhouse, which is located along the Yuba River south of Dobbins.

Bustos Mendez died when the construction equipment he was operating slipped down a steep embankment next to the powerhouse, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The incident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and by Cal-OSHA.
