Woman with autism who went missing is found dead, Sacramento police say

Police tape at crime scene

A woman with autism who was reported missing Friday in Sacramento’s North Natomas area was found dead, police said in a Saturday update.

The Sacramento Police Department in social media posts Friday asked the public to help find 36-year-old Regina Phothong, last seen around 2:30 a.m. that day near Parejo Court and Allaire Circle in the Natomas Creek neighborhood.

Phothong was found dead, the Police Department said in a Saturday morning social media post. Her death remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, Police Department spokesperson Officer Allison Smith said. She was found in a swimming pool at a Natomas-area residence, Smith said.

Phothong was non-verbal autistic and considered at risk when she was missing, according to the Police Department.
