Motorcyclist killed in eastbound I-80 crash in Placer County identified
A motorcyclist killed in a crash that shut down eastbound Interstate 80 near Gold Run on Wednesday has been identified by Placer County coroner’s officials.
The victim was Leonidas Castro, 78, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in a construction zone on eastbound I-80 near Crystal Springs Road. California Highway Patrol officials said two motorcycles and a vehicle were involved.
Castro was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials said it was not immediately clear why Castro’s motorcycle left the roadway.
