Man fatally struck while crossing 47th Avenue in south Sacramento, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A man was killed Sunday night after he reportedly fell while crossing 47th Avenue near Franklin Boulevard in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the man was crossing the eastbound lanes of 47th Avenue about 9:30 p.m. when he fell into the No. 2 lane for unknown reasons. He was struck by two passing vehicles.

The driver of a 2017 Toyota Prius was unable to stop in time and hit the man first, according to the CHP. A second vehicle, a 2017 Ford Focus, also struck the pedestrian as he lay in the roadway.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after notifying his family.

Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with officers; the CHP’s South Sacramento office said the incident remains under investigation.
