Pedestrian killed, possibly hit by 2 vehicles as Sacramento police investigate

Roadway fatality

A pedestrian died after a suspected hit-and-run collision near Florin Road and 24th street near Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood Saturday morning, according to police.

The Sacramento Police Department responded to a call just after 5 a.m. with a report of a “vehicle vs. pedestrian collision,” said police spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead as fire personnel responded, Gamble said. Sacramento police said that crime scene evidence showed that the pedestrian may have been hit by two vehicles, which both left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Gamble said the Police Department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit and crime scene investigators are investigating the incident. This team has “processed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed any witnesses that may have been present,” Gamble said.

The victim, a 60-year-old man who was unhoused, was expected to be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once relatives are notified of his death.

Authorities are asking if there is more information about the incident or the two vehicles involved to contact Sacramento police at 916-808-5471.
