Roseville police ‘Operation Grinch’ nabs 82 in dayslong holiday theft sweep
Roseville police have announced the arrest of 82 people and the recovery of $14,200 following a retail theft crackdown last week, part of a broader regional push targeting holiday-season shoplifters.
The operation, dubbed “Operation Grinch,” took place over four days and led to dozens of arrests in Roseville, according to a statement from the Roseville Police Department. Those arrested were booked into the South Placer County Jail on suspicion of theft and related charges.
Roseville officers partnered with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Probation Department, Rocklin police, California Highway Patrol, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and Elk Grove police in what officials described as an “extensive retail theft enforcement” timed with peak holiday shopping.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies arrested 25 people on Monday, the first day of a similar theft crackdown focused on Target stores in unincorporated Sacramento County, according to previous Bee reporting.
In total, more than 100 people have been arrested in recent days in Placer and Sacramento counties in a series of retail theft enforcement operations, authorities said.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said its Organized Retail Theft Task Force will “conduct similar operations throughout the county all week at multiple locations.”
