Vandalism shut down a portion of Sacramento Regional Transit’s Gold Line for the second time in days Wednesday, forcing buses to replace light rail service while crews worked to make repairs, transit officials said.

Buses are ferrying light rail passengers between the system’s Sunrise and historic Folsom stations after the disruption was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m., RT officials said in a social media post. Service was restored just before 3 p.m., said RT officials, who urged riders to check the Alert SacRT app for updates.

The incident followed the theft of copper wire along the same route Monday, which halted Gold Line service for several hours between RT’s 13th Street station to the Power Inn station near Folsom Boulevard.

RT recorded 49 incidents of vandalism or copper theft in 2025, transit officials said after Monday’s disruption. Damage from such incidents typically costs between $10,000 and $20,000, but can exceed $50,000 in more severe cases.

The extent of the damage and repair costs from Wednesday’s incident had not yet been determined, officials said.
