Sacramento police have arrested two people on suspicion of felony assault and other charges connected to the daylight attack on an anti-ICE protester in downtown Sacramento last weekend.

Sean McCune, 53, and Megan Garfield, 41, both of Sacramento County, now face charges of assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism and conspiracy charges, police officials said Friday. The two were booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, and later released on bail Thursday ahead of scheduled Sacramento Superior Court dates, according to jail records.

The man hurt in the Jan. 17 assault, identified by KCRA-TV as Scott Stauffer, told its reporters that he was protesting with an anti-ICE flag outside a U.S. Customs and Immigration facility in the 500 block of N Street when counter-protesters displaying flags supporting President Trump approached him.

“Hit me with their truck, bashed my windows, got into a fight, got bear-maced,” Stauffer told KCRA.

Officers were called to the scene just before 3:30 p.m., but the suspects had left before police arrived.

A video after the attack showed damage to Stauffer’s van including smashed windows and what appeared to be a small smear of blood near a door panel.

Sacramento police on Friday continue to investigate the Jan. 17 attack.
