Lincoln Crossing Elementary closes amid nearby police investigation
Lincoln Crossing Elementary school officials decided to cancel school on Wednesday after police responded early in the morning to reports of an individual being held against their will near the area of Green Ravine Drive and Storeyfield Lane in Lincoln.
Officers responded to the area around 6 a.m. Wednesday after receiving the report. When officers arrived, multiple individuals fled into a known location, according to the Lincoln Police Department on X.
At 7:03 a.m., the department announced that several individuals had been detained, including one suspect with an outstanding felony warrant.
Lincoln Crossing Elementary emailed parents and staff to inform them the campus would be closed due to “police activity in very close proximity to the campus.”
School officials said the decision was made in coordination with the Lincoln Police Department.
“In coordination with the Lincoln Police Department, this decision was made based on the location of the activity and the unknown amount of time needed for officers to complete their work,” the email said. “Additionally, LPD will be using the LCE parking lot as part of their response.”
All activities, including the after-school program, were canceled for the day, the email said.
The incident occurred less than 12 hours after a deadly shooting in the Lincoln Crossing area, marking the second major crime reported in the neighborhood.
