1 person dead after shooting in Lincoln. Person of interest detained, police say
Authorities are investigating a suspected homicide after one person was shot and killed on Tuesday evening in Lincoln, police said. One person has been detained.
Officers responded around 6 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of Hillwood Loop in the Lincoln Crossing development just north of Thunder Valley Casino Resort, the Lincoln Police Department said in posts to X.
Responding officers located a male victim with at least one gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead a short time later, the department said in an update just after 7:30 p.m.
Police on social media said a “person of interest” had been detained and that authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
Homicides are rare in Lincoln, a city of about 50,000 people in Placer County. The Lincoln Police Department reported zero homicides from 2020 through 2023, with data not available for 2024 or 2025, The Sacramento Bee reported last month.
A man was arrested in December 2024 on suspicion of homicide after a deadly shooting in the man’s home, also in the Lincoln Crossing area, but he was ultimately released from jail without being charged. The Placer County’s District Attorney’s Office has not filed homicide charges in that incident.
