One dead in Highway 99 crash near Galt. Alcohol suspected as factor, CHP says
A person died early Saturday morning in a car crash involving alcohol on Highway 99 in Galt, the California Highway Patrol said.
A male driver was driving with another passenger in his black Honda Civic at 2:40 a.m. south of Pringle Avenue at an unknown speed, according to California Highway Patrol South Sacramento spokesperson Officer Michael Harper.
The Honda left the road, traveling onto the shoulder and ended up in an embankment. The car crashed into a guardrail and overturned, according to Harper, who said alcohol was suspected as a factor in the fatal collision.
CHP South Sacramento units arrived at the scene, where the driver had suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, Harper said.
Harper said the passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
