Man rescued from Sacramento and American rivers by fire officials

Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats on water

A man was rescued by Sacramento fire officials Saturday after going underwater at the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sacramento Fire Department crews responded to a call for service near 101 Jibboom St., south of Garden Highway on the American River Parkway, a spokesperson for the department said, after a man was reported as going under the water.

First responders located the man and rescued him from the water. The man was transported for medical service while receiving CPR.

No additional details have been released about the incident.

The National Weather Service urged caution in Sacramento rivers, as warmer temperatures are bringing colder waters from mountain snowfall melting. The service said swimmers should not enter cold, fast-running water and should never go swimming alone. It also encouraged the use of life jackets and the supervision of children around water.
