Damage to a Pacific Gas and Electric utility pole caused by a squirrel sparked a small vegetation fire Sunday, according to the Auburn Police Department.

At approximately 10:49 a.m. Sunday, Auburn Police Department officers responded to a small vegetation fire, located between a canal near Landis Circle and the eastbound Interstate 80 on-ramp, according to a post from the department.

The fire department also responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Officials determined that the cause of the fire was a squirrel coming into contact with equipment on a Pacific Gas and Electric utility pole. A glass insulator was damaged, which sparked a small fire in nearby vegetation.

There were no injuries reported and no structures were threatened, according to the police department’s post.
