Sacramento Police set up DUI checkpoint for those who drive high on 4/20
Those who plan to partake in 4/20 celebrations by consuming cannabis should not get behind the wheel on Monday — or any other day of the year. Sacramento police will be out looking for impaired drivers.
The Sacramento Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence and driver’s license checkpoint from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at an undisclosed location.
Sgt. Anna Mahoney said impaired drivers put others at risk.
“Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety,” she said.
In a post on X, the department said checkpoint locations are based on data showing where impaired driving-related crashes occur.
“The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road,” the post said.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
