Sacramento police set up DUI checkpoint for those who drive high on 4/20
Those who planned to celebrate 4/20 by using cannabis should not get behind the wheel Monday — or any other day of the year, Sacramento police said.
The Sacramento Police Department planned to conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at an undisclosed location.
Sgt. Anna Mahoney, a spokesperson for the agency, said impaired drivers put others at risk on the road.
“Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety,” she said.
In a post on X, the department said checkpoint locations were based on data showing where crashes involving impaired driving occur.
“The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road,” the post said.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
