Man dies after falling into canal in Rancho Cordova, Metro Fire says

Rancho Cordova news

A man died Monday after falling into a canal in Rancho Cordova, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Crews were dispatched about 1:52 p.m. to Sunrise Boulevard and Sunrise Gold Circle after a report that a person walking along the Folsom South Canal fell into the water, according to the district.

Metro Fire crews, including a boat response team, searched the canal and found an adult man underwater.

“Despite rescue efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the district said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, the district said.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District urged the community to “exercise caution around waterways,” noting that canals can have steep embankments and swift currents.
