Yolo County DA Jeff Reisig announces he will retire later this month

Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig will step down after nearly two decades in the job.

Reisig, who was first elected in 2006, informed the Yolo County Board of Supervisors in a letter Tuesday that he would retire effective May 15. The departure was first reported Wednesday morning by the Davis Vanguard.

“After serving nearly five terms as Yolo County’s elected District Attorney, I have decided to retire,” Reisig wrote in the letter. “My last day will be close of business on May 15, 2026.”

In the letter, Reisig wrote he hopes to spend more time with family during retirement.

The prosecutor recently led the office in filing charges after an explosion at a fireworks warehouse killed seven workers last July 1. Eight people were indicted last month for their suspected involvement.

Amid his departure, Reisig said he is proud of the team he has worked with.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I have had and proud of the highly competent and dedicated team that remains,” he wrote.

Reisig is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, and the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, according to his website. He started working for the District Attorney’s Office in 1997 and was re-elected four times.

He was also president of the California District Attorney Association from 2021 to 2022.
