Nevada County Consolidated firefighters hoisted a person who was stranded on a rock in the South Yuba River to safety Monday afternoon, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a medical rescue near the Highway 49 bridge over the South Yuba River, at the start of the popular Hoyt Crossing Trail, according to a Monday social media post from Nevada County Consolidated Fire.

After locating the person, crews determined a hoist rescue was necessary because of river conditions and requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division Air Operations unit, officials said.

The person was evaluated by medical personnel and released at the scene.

“Remember the rivers are still very cold and swift!” firefighters said in the statement.
