A 69-year-old pedestrian using a walker died after she was struck by an SUV on Monday night on a frontage road near Highway 20 in Yuba City.

The incident involving the female pedestrian was reported about 9:20 p.m. in the 2600 block of 2600 block of Colusa Frontage Road, which is located just north of Highway 20 also known as Colusa Highway.

Officers arrived and found the injured woman, later identified as 69-year-old Balwinder Kaur of Yuba City, the Yuba City Police Department announced Wednesday in a news release.

Police said the pedestrian had been struck by the SUV, and the force of the impact threw her about 50 feet into a nearby ditch. Kaur was found unresponsive, and she had suffered significant injuries. Police said her walker was found at the scene.

Medics arrived and began life-saving measures, including CPR, according to the Police Department. Kaur was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said the SUV’s driver at remained at scene and was cooperative with officers, “assisting with the investigation.”

The Police Department’s Traffic Unit took over the investigation. Police said investigators, at this time, do not believe speed or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs were a factor in the pedestrian fatality. The incident remains under investigation.
