Sacramento man, 33, dies in Memorial Day weekend crash on Highway 50
A 33-year-old Sacramento County man was killed in a two-car crash Saturday on Highway 50, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers from the South Lake Tahoe office said that the man was driving a 2010 Honda Fit westbound on the highway near Sierra Ski Ranch Road. The driver then made an unsafe turn into the path of an eastbound 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 41-year-old North Highlands motorist, causing a collision.
The driver of the Honda, whose name was not released pending notification of family, “was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,” according to the CHP’s report.
The driver of the Tahoe was hospitalized with moderate injuries at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
Sgt. Brian Bell said there was no sign that either driver had been impaired and criminal charges were considered unlikely.
Bell said his office had been busy during Memorial Day weekend, also making two DUI arrests, including one that caused serious injury.
“I can’t stress enough to encourage the public to be extra cautious and be aware of their surroundings and report any dangerous driving to the highway patrol,” Bell said.
