Motorist dies after Capital City Freeway crash near Marconi Avenue exit

A motorist was killed Monday morning along the Capital City Freeway after their vehicle crashed into a pole down an embankment next to the Marconi Avenue exit.

California Highway Patrol officers closed a lane of traffic at the Marconi Curve, a section of freeway that divides Sacramento and Arden Arcade, after the crash, which was reported around 5 a.m.

CHP logs indicated the vehicle, described as a blue Dodge SUV, went 10 to 15 feet down an embankment after leaving the off-ramp.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was expected to identify the driver once next of kin are notified of the the death.
