Body of missing man, 28, found in car’s wreckage below Auburn-area cliff
The body of a missing 28-year-old Placer County man was found in the wreckage of his car below a cliff off Mosquito Ridge Road in Placer County, California Highway Patrol officials said Tuesday.
Family members said the man was last seen June 25 driving a white 2015 Ford Fiesta, according to the CHP. A caller about 6:15 p.m. Monday who identified himself as the man’s brother-in-law said he spotted wreckage that matched the car’s description. The car came to rest approximately 500 feet down a cliff below Mosquito Ridge Road, about 8 miles south of Foresthill Road, the CHP said.
CHP, Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Placer County fire personnel called to the scene located the car and the man’s body inside.
Placer County authorities were waiting for county coroner’s officials to notify next of kin before releasing the man’s name, officials said Tuesday.
Authorities said that there were so far no witnesses to the crash and it was not immediately known when the crash occurred. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor in the fatal wreck. Investigators also preliminarily had ruled out potential self-harm, CHP officials said.
The crash and its cause remain under investigation.
