Man killed in Davis apartment fire identified by Yolo County coroner

Police tape at crime scene

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died Saturday morning in a fire at a Davis apartment complex.

Kataurus Dontay Bryant, 48, was killed in the fire at the Owendale Mutual Housing Community in the 3000 block of Albany Avenue, Yolo County Deputy Coroner Gina Moya said.

Firefighters responded shortly before 8:15 a.m. and found a bedroom on fire, Battalion Chief Matt Galloway said. Crews contained the blaze to the bedroom and prevented it from spreading to other units. The fire was under control “within minutes,” Galloway said.

A dog inside the apartment was injured and taken to a local veterinarian for treatment, Galloway said.

The Davis police and fire departments continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
