Galt issues $391K in illegal fireworks fines from Fourth of July holiday
Galt issued $391,000 in citations for illegal fireworks violations during the Fourth of July holiday.
According to the city, law enforcement identified 20 properties with illegal fireworks violations using drone technology and video evidence. Notices of violation were mailed to the offenders, city officials said.
The only permitted fireworks are non-aerial “Safe and Sane” fireworks purchased at approved local booths bearing the seal of the California State Fire Marshal.
According to the Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department, “Safe and Sane” fireworks may be used in Galt between June 28 and July 5. However, all fireworks — including “Safe and Sane” fireworks — are prohibited during National Weather Service red flag warnings, when fire danger is elevated.
The possession or use of illegal fireworks is subject to a fine of up to $1,000 per illegal firework, according to the Fire Department.
“Penalties may be issued not only to those using illegal fireworks, but also to property owners, renters, and event hosts who allow illegal fireworks activity on their premises,” the city said in a social media post.
