The woman accused of fatally stabbing her brother at a West Sacramento mobile home park was ordered held without bail at her arraignment Friday in Yolo Superior Court in Woodland.
Jennifer Mae Ortega-Lopez, 35, sat among a long line of inmates behind glass in Yolo Superior Court Judge Janene Beronio’s courtroom. Two days earlier, Ortega-Lopez was arrested in the fatal stabbing of her older brother, 37-year-old David Antonio Ortega II, at Casa Mobile Park, 1050 W. Capitol Ave.
Ortega-Lopez, calm, her voice clear, pleaded not guilty at the brief morning hearing to the murder count and to an allegation of using a knife to kill her sibling. Beronio ordered Ortega-Lopez held without bail at Yolo County Jail. Ortega-Lopez is scheduled to return to court Jan. 16.
West Sacramento police were called to the mobile home park about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to find Ortega with a single stab wound to the chest. Ortega was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where he died hours later, police officials said.
