A Sacramento man was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison Friday in the killing of his wife in 2017.

Joshua Anthony Childers, 27, was convicted in the first-degree murder of Victoria Yasman Vasquez on Jan. 31, according to previous reporting by The Sacramento Bee.

He was arrested on March 28, 2017 after Placer County 911 dispatchers received a call from Childers, who said he had shot his wife in a mobile home park on Coed Lane in Florin, according to a news release issued by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Responding officers found Vasquez in a bedroom of the mobile home with a gunshot wound to the head, where she was declared dead, according to previous reporting by The Bee.

Childers was located the same day after law enforcement pinged his cell phone to triangulate his location, according to the release.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office traced Childers to a vehicle in Sheridan, where he was arrested without incident, according to previous reporting by the Bee.

Childers is currently being held at the Sacramento County jail.
