Pedestrian, 73, dies after being hit by motorized bicycle in East Sacramento, police say

A 73-year-old man has died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a motorized bicycle Tuesday afternoon, Sacramento police said.

The pedestrian was struck while crossing H Street near San Miguel Way in East Sacramento just after 4:45 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. The vehicle was traveling westbound on H Street.

The man was transported to the hospital with major injuries and the bicyclist, a 54-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. The crash closed H Street for about three hours.

It is not clear if the 73-year-old died Tuesday or Wednesday. The victim will be identified by the coroner’s office pending notification of family.
