Suspect in fatal hit-and-run on Highway 50 found in Compton and arrested, CHP says
The suspected driver in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Maserati driver on Highway 50 last month was located in Southern California and arrested Thursday, and his brother was arrested in Elk Grove as an accessory, California Highway Patrol said.
Jiajing Yuan of Elk Grove was located in Compton and taken into custody by CHP’s Southern Division, according to a news release.
Yuan faces charges of felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, insurance fraud and other offenses, according to a news release by CHP’s Woodland office. His brother, Jiaming, faces charges of insurance fraud and being an accessory after the fact.
The hit-and-run took place just before 2 a.m. April 10, when CHP Woodland officers responded to a collision just west of Harbor Boulevard on westbound Highway 50.
After a Maserati struck the center divider, the vehicle became disabled and the driver exited the vehicle, authorities said.
The vehicle was then struck a second time by a Nissan traveling in the left lane of westbound Highway 50, CHP said. Then a third vehicle, identified as a white Honda, was able to avoid the two vehicles in the left lane, but struck the driver of the Maserati in the center median and fled the scene, according to CHP’s news release.
Jiajing Yuan was found Thursday in the south L.A. city after an “extensive investigation,” CHP Woodland said in a news release. Jiaming Yuan was arrested in Elk Grove, where both brothers reside.
The hit-and-run victim was identified by the Yolo County coroner’s office as 51-year-old Chris Allen Courtney, a Texas resident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP Woodland office at 530-662-4685.
