Man killed in Sunday hit-and-run on Watt Avenue identified by coroner
A man was killed in a hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning in the Arden Arcade area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred about 12:26 a.m. Sunday on northbound Watt Avenue, just north of Marconi Avenue, when an unknown vehicle struck a pedestrian in the No. 1 lane, CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer A.J. McTaggart said. It was unknown whether the pedestrian was within a crosswalk, McTaggart added.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Matthew Wood, 35.
Based on evidence from the scene, investigators believe the involved vehicle may have been a white Dodge Challenger, model year 2012 to 2015, which likely has a broken headlight and front-end damage, the CHP North Sacramento office said in a news release Monday afternoon.
McTaggart said the CHP is still working to find any witnesses to the collision. According to the news release, citizens who observed events before and after the collision gave differing accounts to CHP investigators.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP North Sacramento office at 916-348-2300.
