Man arrested after 2 were shot at homeless camp near Yuba City, authorities say

An arrest has been made following a Monday morning shooting at a homeless camp near Yuba City, which left two injured, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Mark Anthony Silveira Jr. of Yuba City has been arrested in connection to the shooting, which occurred at a homeless camp east of Putman Avenue. According to a news release, Silveira was attempting to steal property from the camp at approximately 9:30 a.m., when he was confronted by the two victims.

“One victim had a gunshot wound to the groin area and the second victim had a gunshot wound to the buttocks area,” the news release said. “Both victims were transported to the hospital and are being treated.”

Deputies say Silveira, 34, will face charges including attempted murder, burglary, being a felon in possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and drug related crimes. According to the release, Silveira is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
