Police activity near West Campus High, but no threat to school, authorities say

Authorities said there was police activity underway near West Campus High School in Sacramento’s Fruitridge Manor neighborhood, but that no schools were threatened and no campus lockdowns were necessary.

A significant police presence was in the area of West Campus and Mark Twain Elementary School, the Sacramento Police Department said in a tweet just after 7 a.m., but units cleared out and the roadways were reopened just before 7:30 a.m., the department said in an update.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan said the law enforcement activity was “not in relation to the schools at all,” but was in connection with an ongoing investigation, about which he could not disclose any further details.

“It’s not anything to be concerned with at the schools,” Chan said.

Chan said the tweet was “really just an FYI” to parents who may see a large volume of police vehicles in the surrounding neighborhoods as they drop their children off at school.

The tweet had warned that parents, students and staff may “need alternate ingress routes to access the schools,” but this is no longer the case, police say.
