Pair killed after disturbance, police shooting in Davis were mother and son
The man and woman killed Thursday in a domestic dispute and ensuing officer-involved shooting at a Davis residence were a mother and her adult son, the Yolo County coroner confirmed Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Carol Gray, 62, and Christopher Gray, 29, Chief Deputy Coroner Gina Moya said.
Public records indicate Carol Gray lived in a home in the 400 block of Avocet Avenue, where Davis police arrived early Thursday morning in response to a domestic disturbance call.
Davis Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov said later Thursday that officers were at the scene when they saw a woman on the floor inside the house.
A struggle followed with a man at the door, during which at least one officer fatally shot the man, Doroshov said. About four or five officers were there at that time. Davis police later told reporters that the man had a knife.
One officer was injured in the confrontation and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not serious or life-threatening, Doroshov said.
The Davis Enterprise reported that online police activity logs show that officers have responded to a home in the 400 block of Avocet Avenue four times since Dec. 4 for welfare checks and a service report, including a call less than eight hours before the Thursday morning incident.
Police spokesman Lt. Mike Munoz told the Enterprise that the department was “familiar with” Carol and Christopher Gray.
The incident remains under investigation as both a homicide and officer-involved shooting. Authorities have not released further details regarding how many officers may have fired at the suspect.
