Sacramento man sentenced to life in prison for murder of 56-year-old woman
A Sacramento man convicted of the murder of a 56-year-old woman will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on Friday, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
Shylow Therman, 40, robbed Dorthea Brewer at gunpoint in the parking lot of a check cashing store on Florin Road in December 2018, demanding she give him her purse and money, according to the release.
During the struggle Therman shot Brewer once in the head and fled the scene. Brewer later died at the hospital.
Therman was identified from surveillance video from the store and was arrested while in custody on unrelated charges. A .40-caliber shell at the scene was matched to a gun found in Therman’s waistband at the time of his arrest.
He was convicted of first degree murder on Nov. 21. The jury noted that the murder took place during a robbery.
Therman has a previous strike on his record for an armed bank robbery conviction in federal court.
