Man critically injured in north Sacramento shooting on New Year’s Day dies at hospital

A man has succumbed to injuries suffered in a New Year’s Day shooting in the Old North Sacramento neighborhood, dying three days later in the hospital.

Tymon Rodgers, 25, was identified this week by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as the victim in a Jan. 1 shooting near Traction and Lampasas avenues, where one man was found around 3 p.m. with at least one gunshot wound. Rodgers was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Sacramento Police Department, and died three days later on Saturday.

The Sacramento Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and has not made any arrests or released a possible suspect description, according to spokesman Officer Justin Hanks.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the case was immediately turned over to homicide detectives, according to a Police Department news release. Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no further threat to the community, according to the news release.

Anyone who witnessed or has information about the shooting is urged to contact Sacramento Police dispatch at 916-264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
