Update: Police confirm woman found dead in Citrus Heights dated man who died in hanging near I-80
The California Highway Patrol is investigating after a dead body was found hanging from a tree Saturday night along Interstate 80, between Citrus Heights and Roseville.
Officers and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel responded to an anonymous 911 call just after 9 p.m. Saturday reporting a deceased person in the area of eastbound I-80 near Riverside Avenue, the CHP North Sacramento office said in a news release.
Authorities arrived to that area and “located a deceased male in the trees, up the embankment, approximately 30 feet from the traffic lane,” according to the news release, which labeled the death suspicious.
“The male subject, who has not been identified at this time, had a rope tied around his neck and was hanging from a tree branch,” the news release continued.
CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer Greg Zumstein said the male was an adult. No vehicles were noted to have been parked in the vicinity of the body, Zumstein said.
The victim will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
No other details were released.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the CHP North Sacramento office at 916-348-2300, or they can reach Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers anonymously by phone at 1-800-222-7463.
