Elk Grove caretaker arrested after patient dies of head injuries, according to police
The Elk Grove Police Department announced the arrest of a caretaker on Tuesday on involuntary manslaughter charges after an investigation into the December death of a resident at United Living Care Home.
According to a news release, caretaker Aaron Gacilan, 31, had a fight with the victim on Dec. 26, during which Gacilan allegedly kicked the 18-year-old victim in the head several times, leaving him unconscious. The Cosumnes Fire Department responded and performed CPR before transporting the victim to Kaiser South hospital, the release said.
Police say the victim died on Dec. 31. They had been contacted by Kaiser staff days after the fight that the victim remained unconscious with a head injury, according to the release. Police notified Adult Protective Services and the Department of Social Services as they began an investigation.
The victim had been the only full-time resident of United Living Care Home, a residential facility for dependent adults that had two part-time residents, police said. They were found to be uninvolved in the incident.
Gacilan was transported to the main jail Tuesday after his arrest.
