Sacramento homicide suspect in custody after crashing into Roseville bus, police say
A homicide suspect wanted in connection with the death of a woman in Sacramento was taken into custody by Roseville Police after crashing his vehicle into a city bus Tuesday evening, officials with the two police departments said. No one was seriously hurt in the crash.
Asghar Ehsan was taken into custody and booked into the Sacramento County jail on suspicion of homicide, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Police said Ehsan also drove his vehicle toward officers while attempting to flee the scene, forcing one to jump out of the way of a moving vehicle, Roseville Police Department spokesman Rob Baquera said in an emailed statement.
The incident began several miles south in Sacramento’s Valley Hi neighborhood around 3:45 p.m., where officers responding for a welfare check located a woman stabbed to death at a residence in the 6700 block of Calvine Road, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release.
Detectives quickly identified Ehsan, 44, as a suspect who was known to the victim. Roseville police at about 6:30 p.m. received a be-on-the-lookout alert from Sacramento police regarding an armed homicide suspect along with a suspect vehicle description, Baquera said.
Patrolling officers found a matching vehicle about an hour later.
Officers surrounded the vehicle, but Ehsan refused to exit, according to Baquera. The suspect then started to drive away.
“While attempting to flee from the scene, an officer had to jump out of the way of the moving vehicle,” Baquera wrote. That officer was uninjured.
Ehsan then tried to escape via North Sunrise Boulevard, “but hit a City bus and the (suspect) vehicle became disabled,” Baquera wrote.
He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Baquera said that one bus rider reported minor injuries and that Ehsan was hospitalized with minor injuries. No officers were reported injured.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
