Man arrested after 65-year-old pedestrian killed in Antelope in suspected DUI crash
A 65-year-old man was killed in Antelope early Sunday morning in what California Highway Patrol officers are investigating as a DUI crash.
In a news release, the North Sacramento-area CHP said officers received reports of a traffic collision on southbound Walerga Road near Elverta Road around 12:35 a.m.
Responding officers determined that a Sacramento man had been walking through the roadway when a 1999 Toyota Corolla struck him.
First responders from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District pronounced that man dead at 12:44 a.m., according to CHP.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office late Sunday identified him as George James Xedes of North Highlands.
The car’s driver, a 25-year-old Rocklin man identified by the CHP as Andrew Jogesh Lal, cooperated with officers, but was arrested at 1:14 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Southbound Walerga Road was closed for more than an hour during the investigation.
CHP is asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call 916-348-2300.
