15-year-old arrested after another teen is shot and wounded in Auburn, authorities say

A 15-year-old was shot and hospitalized during a marijuana sale in Auburn and another 15-year-old was arrested, Placer County sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies were alerted around 8:30 p.m. Monday that a teenage victim had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a news release. The victim is in stable in condition at the hospital, deputies said.

Investigating detectives determined the shooting happened near Colonial Village and New Airport Road in Auburn. Deputies found and arrested a 15-year-old suspect, whom the victim had met for an illegal marijuana transaction, investigators said.

“Conflict occurred between the two juveniles and one juvenile shot the other,” the news release said. Names were not released because both are minors.

Deputies have not found the firearm used in the shooting, despite witness interviews and “extensive” searches of the area, according to the news release.

The Sheriff’s Office has asked any other possible witnesses, or anyone with knowledge as to the whereabouts of the firearm, to contact its investigations division at 530-889-7830.
