Davis Police release surveillance video related to attempted sexual assault Sunday
The Davis Police Department has shared surveillance video taken about 30 minutes prior to a violent attempted sexual assault that occurred late Sunday night, showing a man walking in a nearby area, but authorities say the man is not a suspect in the case.
Around 12:15 a.m. Monday, police responded to the 1800 block of Birch Lane for an assault, which the female victim said happened in her driveway shortly before midnight, the Police Department said in an earlier news release. The woman had been walking toward her front door when a male suspect approached from behind, forced her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her.
The victim “loudly screamed” and fought back against the assailant, leading the suspect to flee, police said.
“The unknown male suspect possibly wore a ‘puffy’ jacket made of squishy material,” the Police Department said in an earlier Facebook post.
The Police Department on Thursday posted home surveillance video showing a man in a light-colored hoodie walking in an area near where the crime occurred about a half-hour before the attack. He is wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. Police say the man is not a suspect.
“This person is not a suspect of any crime, but we would like for them to come forward in the hopes that we learn more about this case,” the department wrote.
Anyone with information about Monday’s incident or who maybe able to identify the man from the surveillance video, who police believe may possibly have some information about the case, is asked to contact Detective Ron Trn at 530747-5418.
