Father, 2-year-old son killed in Elk Grove murder-suicide both identified by coroner

An Elk Grove man and his 2-year-old child, killed Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide, have been identified by the coroner’s office.

Orlando Troncoso, 45, was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday in the 5500 block of Tamarindo Lane, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The Elk Grove Police Department said it was investigating the death of a man and his 2-year-old son as an apparent murder-suicide. Police spokesman Officer Jason Jimenez said authorities responded to a call reporting a woman screaming in the street on Tamarindo Lane early Sunday afternoon.

Investigators determined the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the 2-year-old had died of a single gunshot wound at a residence in that location following a “verbal argument” between the woman and Troncoso, according to a Police Department news release. The deaths occurred in a gated community called The Aspens.

The 2-year-old was identified Wednesday afternoon by the coroner as Matthew Picazo.
